Voluntary sustainability disclosures carry legal weight

Companies making voluntary disclosures of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues must ensure that any statements can be backed up by data and they must be aware that disclosures to reporting frameworks such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) will be evaluated against other disclosures, according to two experts at law firm Baker and McKenzie.
